Domaine Glennon is about craft — the old way, not the new
It’s about uncompromising work ethic and the rare people that still operate this way. It’s about my dad and his side of our family who live in the midwest and have worked construction for generations. It’s about my mom and her family who were farmers in our small town. It’s about the people I grew up with. It’s also about an awakening I had when it comes to wine and winemaking.
Memory
I started working for my father’s construction company in the 5th grade. My dad woke me up every single morning and nearly every day he told me, “Your mom gave you brains, and I am going to teach you to use them.” I would watch him build things over and over until they were perfect. There was something else in him that drove him. My father didn’t have a name for it. It was just the way things were.
I worked my first harvest for Mike Smith in Napa Valley in 2014. It was not a vacation. Mike makes world class wines, and he earns every acclaim and write-up with hours upon hours of meticulous, backbreaking work. I was addicted after the very first (21 hour) day.
